“Drunk on lust, hate greed, and fear; we have forgotten
the reminder of the soul… to love.”
Simply put the Human Hangover is our human experience. With a mind drunk off emotional energy from past and present stress- we forget who we are, why we’re here, or how to get back to self. Mapping the journey inwards helps guide our communication and provides focus for the healing path ahead.

ABOUT THE MAP
Eight main attractions make up The Human Hangover™ map – each holding unique challenges and wisdom along the inner journey. Using these details we can ask our subconscious what our own map looks like- giving insight into who we are, why we are, and the power to build a new map within.
8 MAIN ATTRACTIONS
EGO ISLAND: Guilt & Shame
Immobilized, stuck or shutdown, little motivation or movement.
EMOTION OCEAN: Fear & Grief
Caught in current/pattern, submerged or drowning in emotions, floating on surface to get by.
RIVER OF REASON: Pride & Anger
Feeling threatened, upset or fighting back to protect yourself.
FOREST OF FEELS: Willingness & Courage
Afraid or hurt, natural response to run or flee for protection.
VAGAL VALLEY: Acceptance & Neutrality
Feeling stuck or out of control, barely hanging on, or freefalling.
VAGAL BRIDGE: Love & Reason
Feeling playful, desire to dance and move, competitive.
FOUNTAIN OF YOU: Peace & Joy
Feeling safe and open to relationships, social with others, playful with self.
MOVE IT MOUNTAIN: Enlightenment & Awareness
Feeling light-hearted, able to be the observer, good communication, at peace when isolated but ready for new experiences and connection.
Draw, envision, paint, mold, explore outside, build a sand castle version- get creative in discovering what your own Human Hangover map looks like. Engage your inner child and creative energies. Keep in mind these exercises are a point of communication between you and your inner self. The point of creating isn’t to make a masterpiece, but to make a connection with the masterpiece within- which is you.
USING THE MAP
Many find it helpful to use their map for meditation or visualization purposes. In this way the map offers a symbolic landscape for our subconscious to bring things to the surface. Fear isn’t a warning to beware, but an invitation to be aware of something. Find a safe space to set an intention and ask your soul to share what you are meant to be aware of at this time.
Meditate with your eyes closed and see what visually comes to mind, let your hands mold or draw in a free-form manner, or walk in nature and see what the universe brings to your path. Whether being open to messages in the mind or in the outside world, our universe is always speaking if we are willing to listen. Are you being shown turbulent waters in the Emotion Ocean? Did a storm cause damage to your Forest Of Feels? Why? Dig into the symbolism behind what you’re shown and explore what self is saying to you.
If words resonate with you, try using the map to describe your places of discomfort with writing. Use prompts to write what it’s like for you to experience Ego Island, describe what your Forest Of Feels looks like, or create an inner child story book about how you cross the angry Emotion Ocean. Write a promise in a poem, a song to your past self, or a letter in a bottle to the self you seek.

EGO ISLAND
EGO ISLAND: Guilt & Shame
Immobilized, stuck or shutdown, little motivation or movement.
Stranded alone and surrounded by our emotional waters, Ego Island can leave us feeling paralyzed in fear or panic from the threat of the Emotion Ocean surrounding us.
Heavy winds, strong storms and gripping waves from the Emotion Ocean eat away at our shoreline. Ego Island is often a place of survival rooted in past experiences, beliefs, and emotions.
EGO ISLAND SYMBOLISM
SHORELINE – Boundaries
VEGETATION – Belief Systems
SUNRISE – Outward Focus
WEATHER – Mood
RAIN – Released Emotions
Remember that you are the best guide for you. The most powerful tool you can have along the healing journey is a strong connection to yourself. Be sure to have a healthy support system and health professionals in place before diving in. Exploring unprocessed emotions can be overwhelming or cause mental and physical fatigue. Have a personal plan in place to help you navigate heavy feelings or experiences that may arise. CLICK FOR TERMS

INNER WORK
BODY MAP
Guided suggestions for mapping feelings and emotions in the body.
TRAUMA & EMOTIONS IN THE BODY
In the animal world, once safety is found, animals will “shake off” a life-threatening chase to help discharge excess energy from the traumatic event. When pushed beyond our threshold for coping with a stress, trauma, or an emotional response – our nervous system will demand space to regulate and clear a path back to balance.
If we suppress this response, it can manifest in pain or disease. Since an emotional inventory is kept within our physical body, discomfort or pain can be the result of unreleased tensions, stress and trauma.
Unprocessed emotions become hidden and trapped in the structure of our physical being. Allowing our nervous system to finish its natural response for processing emotions and trauma, helps our body maintain homeostasis and gives opportunity to build overall mental and physical health.

RIVER OF REASON
RIVER OF REASON: Pride & Anger
Feeling threatened, upset or fighting back to protect yourself.
The power of the mind to understand, explain, and justify an action or event is a powerful current. Fighting the flow of the River of Reason is a path we often take, but balance along the riverbanks while engaged in the Forest of Feels makes for an easier path. Reason is can be an important feature of the healing path, but be aware not to get swept away or trapped by whirlpools or dams.

We become creators of our own universe, mapping a way to our authentic self while remembering who we are.

SOUND IT OUT
The first step is to listen. Often times we react to pain or discomfort by numbing or ignoring it. Leaning into the discomfort and listening to what it might be saying connects our mind and body; allowing a relationship to form. Let your body sound it out to you. Where do you feel pain? What parts are uncomfortable? What parts do you hide or protect?
Find a somatic way to explore your emotions through the body. See what modalities speak to you, and use them to create your own Inner Work Body Map™ as a guide back to yourself. Remember these are only suggestions to help put the power of healing back where it belongs, in your hands. The most powerful tool you can have along the healing journey is a strong connection to self. Keep what resonates and find your own truth for anything that doesn’t.

FOREST OF FEELS
FOREST OF FEELS: Willingness & Courage
Afraid or hurt, natural response to run or flee for protection.
Seeing the forest from the trees while getting to the root of the problem is what the Forest Of Feels can teach us. Exploring our feelings is a great source of strength, understanding, and healing. We can use the Forest of Feels to ground our thoughts and discover what emotions our feelings are rooted in. You’ve got to feel it to heal it.

FEEL IT OUT
Identifying feelings you need to feel and release can be as detailed as you are comfortable with. Listen to yourself and expand only as far as your mind and body want to push it. Feel it out. Some feel comfortable releasing exclusively through the body without revisiting trauma in the mind, experiencing relief of both body and mind. Others may choose to release through mental memories, talk therapy or energetic work.
Once you’ve identified an area to release, you can mold this into an intention you hold throughout any modality that speaks to you. Common practices include free-form dancing, stretching of the hips and back, massage, forest bathing or being in nature, Qigong, Tai Chi, and many more. Find a modality and healer you connect with, hold your intention of release and let each area go. This may take a number of revisits to peel the layers off, be patient with your journey, your feelings and yourself.

VAGAL VALLEY
VAGAL VALLEY: Acceptance & Neutrality
Feeling stuck or out of control, barely hanging on, or freefalling.
A slippery slope of self, it can be easy to push feelings down the Vagal Valley and get swept away by the River of Reason or trapped in a whirlpool. After so many falls, fear can cause us to lose trust in the Vagal Bridge (our own voice) or ignore it altogether. Processing feelings and integrating new growth comes with strong emotions and lessons learned.

MOVE IT OUT
When you’ve identified and felt your way through what or who you’re letting go of and are ready to release; write out your Intention of Release to focus on during your healing. This is an agreement and awareness between your body, mind, and soul of what is being released.
When we hold a conscious intention behind our chosen practice, we hold the power and direction of impact that practice has on us. This puts the power of healing into our own hands and allows us to weave this with any given belief system or modality we connect with. No matter what practice you use to release, remember that each body experiences and processes differently. Be patient and kind with yourself and allow your body to move, shake, stretch and release the way it needs to. Give time for your mind to adjust and energies to integrate.
