A guide to mapping the healing journey, for you. In the animal world, once safety is found, animals will “shake off” a life-threatening chase to help discharge the energy from the traumatic event. Allowing our bodies to finish this nervous system response for daily emotions and past trauma, helps the body maintain balance, homeostasis and build overall health. Deeply rooted discomfort in the body can be the result of unreleased tension or trauma from our past, which is best released by the body itself.
Unprocessed emotions become hidden and trapped into the structure of our body. So, finding these mind + body connections is vital to bringing self-awareness that allows us to work on our emotional waters; to restore balance and rebuild our physical body, mind, and life. By default, we experience life through the voices of others, media, from social constructs and our past traumas… but only until we are audacious enough to find our own voice.
Give yourself the chance to respond instead of reacting to life. Allow these guides to be tools and suggestions- always listen to your body in finding out what feelings and emotions reside where, and why. Everyone is different and each body will manifest emotions differently.
FIND YOUR FEELS
Where focus goes, energy flows… but that is only helpful when you know where to focus. Identifying and locating emotions in the body gives us a roadmap to build our healing journey around. Unprocessed trauma can show up in many ways, but it can also be released and healed in many ways. I’ve used countless techniques over the past 30+ years to let go of deeply rooted trauma; and this pattern emerged to be the most efficient method in applying healing modalities and techniques.
Healing can be tough to navigate and help difficult to find; but the greatest tool in healing we can use, is ourself. These guides are not a cure, but a tool to help aid in listening to your body, finding your voice, and hearing what you are saying. Create space, lean into the process, and allow each step the time needed to unfold, and release to restore your body and mind.
1 SOUND IT OUT
Listening to our pain leads the way to discovering areas of our subconscious in need of attention. Coupling inner work and body work (focusing on the correlating emotional and physical areas) encourages our mind + body connection to work with in the healing process. 2 FEEL IT OUT
You must feel it, to heal it. I don’t make the rules, but I can be proof that it’s true to the core. One of the best ways to open up our emotions is with breath work and stretching our hips/psoas. When we harness this physical (somatic) with inner work, it allows the mind to open and heal the emotions in our physical body as well. 3 MOVE IT OUT
Emotions are stored in our physical being, so working through trauma mentally will only do so much. After listening to and feeling the emotions in our body, we can release & integrate them. Once we release the power of others’ voices/energy over us, we create space to call back our own voice/power and make our own waves.
